Snooty Prune by Pippa Goodhart

Next steps: when reading stories, think carefully about the different characters, what they might feel and why. Notice the ways in which authors develop character.

Ideas
1. Discuss the author's choice of names for the story, especially Prunella and Mrs Farey.
2. Ask pupils to think of a way that Prunella might have avoided being bullied at her new school. Did Beth's sister have the solution (see page 46)?
3. Talk about the way that both girls present themselves in letters. Ask pupils to explain what the letters tell us about their characters.
4. Ask pupils to write a letter presenting themselves differently. Develop these into a discussion about characteristics they like or admire in each other.
