Ideas
1. Ask pupils to use the introduction to find out when Leichhardt lived. How old was he when he died? Turn to page 94 to discover how he died.
2. Ask pupils to find evidence that Leichhardt named many features in Australia. Begin with pages 22, 32, 48 and 52. Copy the sentences and page numbers as evidence.
3. Ask pupils to find evidence that Leichhardt was interested in the plants and animals of Australia. Look at pages 27, 33 and 34. Ask them to write about the incident (in Chapter 15) that tells us what happened to most of the plant collection.
4. Ask pupils to find descriptions of Leichhardt's appearance and character on pages 12, 18, 28 and 29. Write a description and say whether you would have liked to be on his expedition.
