| 1. | Read 'Sand' on page 4. Ask pupils to say which lines make them laugh. Notice that each line begins with 'Sand'. Clap the rhythm and make up some more lines. |
| 2. | Read 'A Week of August Weather' on pages 8-11. Ask pupils to say how the weather affected the family. Present the poem by reading a verse each in sequence. |
| 3. | Read 'The Lighthouse' and 'The Lightship' (pages 12-13). Discuss the information given in each poem. Ask pupils to describe the lighthouse or the lightship in their own words, in prose or as a poem. |
| 4. | Read 'Pebbles' on page 14. Ask pupils to find a list in the poem. Read 'The Shell', then ask pupils to write a list poem about shells. |
